I really don't like getting involved in dArama - HATE it in fact but I am just sickened by some comments on this image.
I suggested this DD for several reasons. Yes its not a beginners image, its intermediate to advanced. Yes shes not in water, that's what as an artist YOU have to do. Yes she doesn't have a tail, point in fact I know latex tails that look real retail at 400USD so its not unrealistic that every mermaid stock image has said realistic tail. Its a good image, well lit, perfect proportions, beautiful costume and makeup. The model is standard size 6-8US, 8-10UK, lovely face and figure. As someone else pointed out not all mermaids have to be Disney characters. She may be slightly androgynous but hay! Thats what PHOTOSHOP IS FOR! Grow an imagination and get on with it.
As for the haters and saying Cory is a man, There's a saying, "If you have nothing nice to say, then don't say anything!" and I think this applies in this case.
I don't get why some peoples' first impressions were "her face is manly" Personally, for me mermaids have always been unusual creatures. I think her features represent that nicely; a long and narrow face, a straight bridge on her nose and a defined jaw line. Her features are all very strong and I think that's a good embodiment of a creature of the sea. Not dainty or delicate, but strong and regal.
Neither do I! I thought she was just beautiful, regal and strong as you say. Not flopping like a wet towel. Trust me if they seen some of the models I have to retouch - now THEY are MANLY! Including the facial hair to boot! Like I said earlier, if we can say nothing good then don't say anything. There's enough hatred in the world without morons bitching over a lovely girl.
I can't help but notice the (lack of) quantity and quality of work from some of those commenting...they are obviously artists of very high standards and hence only show their early work so as not to embarress the rest of us with our lowly skills.... ^^
Her face is just fine, be it angular and special, or Barbie. I like her angular face. Geez, the nerve of some people.
Her pose and expression is perfect. You even have the perfect setting for the shot! I hope it wasn't cold. Her body is real. Exquisite, but real. A very good example. The costume is very well done! There is wonderful detail, but not busy. Simple, yet incredible. And the makeup... the scales are realistic, believable even.
